RAD Wins NFV Innovation of the Year Award
RAD’s new Distributed NFV (D-NFV) solution has been named the winner of the Network Virtualization Industry Award for NFV Innovation of the Year. The announcement was made on May 28 at Network Virtualization & SDN World in London.
RAD was one of eight companies shortlisted for the honor.
The RAD Service Assured Access solution includes the award winning ETX, a powerful Layer 2/Layer 3 Network Termination Unit (NTU), equipped with a D-NFV module, an x86 server that serves as a virtualization engine at the customer edge.
“We are especially proud of this award, given that this is a first-to-market NFV solution,” states RAD President and CEO Dror Bin. “RAD is an industry leader in virtualization and is an active participant in relevant standardization bodies,” he adds. “Our commitment is symbolized by a $32M investment in a new R&D center that we have now opened to focus on these technologies as the world of communications rapidly migrates to NFV and SDN.”
D-NFV is a centerless approach that requires a minimum of upfront investment and risk while providing service agility. RAD designed its solution as an ideal first phase towards full-scale NFV deployment, which may combine virtualized network functions (VNFs) at the customer edge, the network nodes and at the data center. The company has been running D-NFV PoC testing with major carriers since mid-2013, and, in a few weeks will be publicly demonstrating a “Multi-Vendor Distributed NFV” PoC within the ETSI NFV ISG framework.
The Network Virtualization Industry Awards celebrate excellence in the telecoms industry and recognize the outstanding technologies developed for the NFV and SDN community over the last twelve months. The panel of judges included Mark Winther, Group Vice President and Consulting Partner at Worldwide Telecommunications IDC, Peter Willis, Chief Data Networks Strategist at BT, Dimitris Mavrakis, Principal Analyst at Informa Telecoms & Media, and Caroline Chappell, Senior Analyst at Heavy Reading.
