RAD Opens New $32 Million R&D Center
This morning, RAD inaugurated its “RAD Negev” subsidiary, which will serve as an advanced R&D center for developing programmable network solutions. The center is situated in the new hi-tech park in the city of Beer Sheva, the “capital” of Israel’s Negev region.
The initiative is being funded jointly by RAD and the Office of the Chief Scientist, an agency within the country’s Ministry of Economics, which together are investing approximately $32 million in the project over the next three years.
Thirty software engineers have already been hired to work in the new facility, and 20 more are expected to join them by the end of this year. RAD has set a goal of employing over 100 engineers within three years in this new facility.
In the past several quarters RAD has experienced a growth in demand for its advanced communication solutions, which are marketed to telecommunications service providers. The rapid recruitment of employees is intended to boost the company’s R&D as the world of communications dramatically migrates to virtualized applications and networking solutions. This change is coming about because the traditional relationship between network functions and dedicated hardware is being undone by Software Defined Networking (SDN) and Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) technologies.
“This new R&D center will help us accelerate our roadmap to differentiating innovation,” states RAD president and CEO Dror Bin. “Our goal is to recruit talented developers from the area in order to continue to strengthen our market advantage and industry leadership.”
