RAD to Unveil its Hybrid TDM and Carrier Ethernet Teleprotection Communications Solution for Distance and Differential Protection Schemes at European Utility Week
RAD, the international manufacturer of communications solutions for the power utility industry, has announced that at European Utility Week, October 15-17, in Amsterdam, it will premier its enhanced Service Assured Networking offering for T&D networks with special focus on Teleprotection communications solutions.
“What makes RAD’s Service Assured Networking solution particularly unique is that it now supports both distance and differential Teleprotection schemes,” states Mati Epstein, Line of Business Head for Utilities and Transportation at RAD. “This has been made possible by the integration of a distance Teleprotection module into our popular Megaplex multiservice access node, a major building block of our Service Assured Networking solution, which already supports differential Teleprotection interfaces.”
The hybrid Megaplex features both TDM and Carrier Ethernet, which makes it the only Teleprotection solution in the market that transports distance commands and differential Teleprotection seamlessly over both legacy and packet based networks.
“Protection departments are rightfully concerned about the transition of the communications network to packet based technologies,” explains Epstein. “RAD’s Service Assured Networking offers Protection departments and their ICT counterparts in the T&D grid a secure, reliable and – most important – evolutionary migration path for Teleprotection communications, based on RAD’s unique Traffic Duplication concept.”
Service Assured Networking is an all-inclusive solution that provides reliable, scalable, managed, secured, and guaranteed performance over SDH and carrier-grade Ethernet for distance and differential Teleprotection, hybrid multiservice substation communications, core operational networks, secure SCADA communications, 61850-3 and IEEE 1613 environmental standards, distribution automation backhaul, and Smart Meter backhaul.
RAD’s utility customers include AES, CELPE, Endesa, Enel, Eskom, Hydro Quebec, IEC, Kepco, Meralco, E-on, Elia, Nampower, National Grid USA, Novosibirsk Energo, Powercor, and Terna Italia.
