RAD Acquires OAM Patents for Smart SFP Devices
RAD, the industry pioneer of network hardware miniaturization, has announced that it has acquired two issued U.S. patents and one pending U.S. application relating to operations, administration and management (OAM) functionality in small form factor pluggable (SFP) devices.
The two patents, US 8,982,726 and 9,025,490, cover connectivity check and loopback functionality inside an SFP optical module. These capabilities enable network demarcation and service level agreement (SLA) enforcement by upgrading existing network elements with fault and performance management functionalities.
RAD’s MiNID® line of miniaturized Carrier Ethernet and IP network demarcation devices (NIDs) is a significant pillar of its Service Assured Access (SAA) solutions portfolio. The MiNID platform is available as an SFP sleeve or in a standalone unit. MiNID delivers software-defined functionalities for enhanced demarcation, remote monitoring, fault isolation and other advanced networking tools by providing instant upgrade for legacy switches and routers. This enables service providers, mobile operators and wholesale carriers to introduce new services quickly and with better quality of experience (QoE) while increasing operational efficiency and lowering costs.
