 Benefits
- Saves line and port costs
- Dependable
- Seamlessly integrates into any standard management platform
The Centrais Elétricas do Norte do Brasil S.A. (Eletronorte) is a subsidiary of Centrais Elétricas Brasileiras S.A. (Eletrobras), the holding company of the Brazilian Electrical Sector. It is responsible for the generation, transmission and distribution of electrical energy in all northern Brazil, which comprises 58% of the Brazilian national territory.

Cost-Effective, Reliable Products

Eletronorte built a 1,600 km (1,000 mile) fiber optic SDH network based on STM-4 to provide management and control of all Eletronorte substations and network devices. RAD's Multiservice Access Platform (MAP) products were selected as the access equipment for this internal network, due to their reliability and cost-efficiency.
Eletronorte Case Study - Quote 2
RAD's DXC-8R compact multiservice access nodes distribute traffic among the substations. The DXC improves utilization of E1 lines by grooming several lines onto one link. This results in significant cost savings at Eletronorte by reducing the number of costly ports required on the SDH add-drop multiplexer (ADM). RAD's modular Megaplex-2100 and Megaplex-2104 multiplexers installed at the substations transfer voice and high and low speed data services required for remotely controlling the network. The DXC and Megaplex units are fully redundant, enhancing their dependability.

Works with Any Standard Management Platform

RAD products seamlessly integrate into the HP OpenView management platform implemented on the ECI SDH backbone. Standard management MIBs integrated into the RAD products work with any vendor's management system, for a total management solution.

Other projects in which RAD products interwork with the management systems of other vendors' SDH networks include Singapore Mass Rapid Transit – SMRT (ECI backbone), Sviaztransneft in Russia (ECI backbone); Globe Telecom in the Philippines (Cisco backbone) and Telkom Kenya (Lucent backbone).
