Home Resources Glossary E1 Access

E1 Access

E1 is a physical layer protocol for leased line transmissions. E1 lines carry thirty-two (32) 64 kbps channels at 2.048 Mbps. Thirty of these channels are used for voice and data circuits, one is used for signaling and another is used for framing and maintenance. The E1 protocol has been standardized by the ITU-T and is the fundamental building block in most transmission networks outside of North America. In North America, a similar protocol called T1 is used.

RAD’s E1 Access Solutions

RAD E1 access product solutions support E1 access on the user ports and E1 access to the network. The E1 access product family includes routers, channel service units (CSUs), data service units (DSUs), network termination units (NTUs), multiplexers, digital cross connects, and many other devices. These solutions support multiple services over E1 access lines, as well as E1 access over a variety of uplinks, such as Ethernet, E3 and STM-1.
