The Optimux-34 16 E1 and Ethernet or data E3 or fiber multiplexer can combine up to 16 E1 lines, high-speed data or Ethernet traffic over an E3 coax or fiber link, providing point-to-point extension of multiple services from an SDH backbone as well as wireless extension for cellular backhaul and satellite.

Transmitting over single-mode fiber or multimode fiber as well as E3 coax, the Optimux-34 E3 optical line multiplexer can multiplex aggregate bandwidth up to 34 Mbps over a distance of 110 km (69 miles).

The Optimux-34 16 E1, Ethernet or data E3 or fiber multiplexer is used to extend E1 lines from an SDH backbone as well as to fan out E1 lines from an E3 port in cellular backhaul applications over radio. In addition, the Optimux-34 16 E1 and Ethernet or Data over E3 or Fiber Multiplexer offers a low-cost alternative to larger and more costly add-drop multiplexers or DAC units.

The Optimux-34 E3 16 E1, Ethernet or data E3 or fiber Multiplexer can also be equipped with an SFP transceiver, redundant links and power supplies, for greater flexibility, reliability and fail-safe operation.

The Optimux-34 16 E1 and Ethernet or data E3 or fiber multiplexer provides a simple and cost-effective solution for transporting multiple E1 links, high-speed data and Ethernet over an E3 coax or fiber link for up to 110 km (69 miles).

Flexible Ethernet bandwidth management, port configuration

The Optimux-34 16 E1 and Ethernet or data E3 or fiber multiplexer provides up to 16 E1 channels, enabling the user to replace some of the traffic with high-speed data and/or 10/100BaseT user Ethernet traffic. It is designed for applications requiring the full E3 bandwidth for multiple E1 connectivity.

A single 10/100BaseT Ethernet user port is optional. The bandwidth available for the Ethernet port can be adjusted by the user in gradations of 8 Mbps. The configuration options are:

  • 16 E1 only
  • 12 E1 and 8.448 Mbps for Ethernet
  • Eight E1 and 16.893 Mbps for Ethernet
  • Four E1 and 25.334 Mbps for Ethernet
  • 32 Mbps for Ethernet only

The main link interface of the Optimux-34 can be either a standard coax E3 interface or a fiber optic interface.

The following optical interfaces are available:

  • 1310 nm and 1550 nm laser for extended range over single mode fiber
  • 1310 nm and 1550 nm long haul for extended range over single mode fiber
  • Single mode over single fiber (WDM) option

Multiple Ethernet transmission options

Ethernet transmission utilizes a single integrated 10/100BaseT LAN port. The Ethernet port can operate in half or full duplex mode, and supports auto-negotiation and transparent VLAN forwarding. IEEE 802.3x flow control and backpressure are also supported.

The Optimux-34 16 E1 and Ethernet or data E3 or fiber multiplexer offers modular redundant power supply and secondary link options, enhancing system reliability. The optional secondary link provides backup using automatic switchover upon main link failure.

The Optimux-34 device transmits each of the E1 channels independently. The E1 interface can be 75Ω unbalanced or 120Ω balanced.

The E3 interface clock can be locked onto an external station clock. To facilitate system diagnostics, the unit features LED status indicators, AIS alarm generation, recognition and dry contact closure upon link failure. In addition, setup, control and diagnostics can be performed through a supervisory port using an ASCII terminal, Telnet host or Web terminal, or from an SNMP management station via the Ethernet port or the dedicated management port (Ethernet or RS-232).

The SNMP management application offers:

  • RADview for Windows environment
  • RADview for HP OpenView UNIX platforms

The product is available as a compact 1U-high or 2U-high (E1 unbalanced) unit for mounting in a 19-inch rack.
